Kitchen pendant lighting uk

Choosing a Type of Pendant Light

Each of our pendant lights are suspended from the ceiling by either a cor chain, or metal rod. Perfect for any room, these fixtures are available in a range of sizes and shapes, making them an excellent choice for any home.

How high is your ceiling?

Modern ceilings are not particularly high so to install a modern pendant light it needs to be in proportion to the available height and general layout of the room. You may need one that does not have much of a drop but is wide enough to give it pride of place as a focal point. This may be better being a small chandelier rather than a conventional pendant light fitting but many contemporary pendant lights will also suit.

Read more about how our crackled pendant lights are made

Our Potter, Claire, constructs the conical shade using a type of stoneware clay called crank, which is mixed with water and poured into a plaster mould. The plaster is incredibly porous and quickly absorbs moisture from the clay, causing it to set. To make sure that the finished pendant light is the perfect weight, Claire has figured out exactly how long to wait before pouring the excess clay from the mould. The cast is then left to dry for two days before taking it out of the mould; if the clay were to dry too quickly it would start to split and crack all over.

Once glazed and fire the shade is brushed with an iron oxide solution to create the lovely crackle effect.
