Leave your phone behind.
4G LTE connectivity uses your mobile data plan so you can send texts, get emails, receive notifications and even make calls all without your phone.1
What can it do?
Like any functional watch, the Gear Sand Scan tell time—so that part is handled. Phew! This Gear SFrontier has default faces available, ranging from minimal analog-like designs to a chronograph style, a digital clock dashboar and a number of other faces with various bits of info (like weather and battery life) nestled in.
You can lightly customize the look of the faces by tweaking the complications or in some cases the coloring, too.
Samsung Gear SFrontier review: Software and daily use
The Frontier runs Tizen . and is a minor update to the software running on older S2s. The use of the rotating bezel to turn through menus is still borderline genius in its simplicity, and once you’ve customised the various screens to your liking, you’re only a few clicks away from your music player, calendar, email and heart rate. Receive a text and the watch vibrates, popping up with the whole message thread.
You can even reply directly using the pleasingly unfiddly on-screen keyboard or using your voice. The software is just about good enough for the latter, but you have to enunciate or it’ll make mistakes.
Samsung boss on the launch of new phone
Samsung has also addressed one of the big issues with wearable gadgets: battery life. The company says the Gear Scan last three to four days between charges.
