Fills in duvets may be natural down, feathers, or various types of synthetic hollowfibre, memory foam, or micro fibres. Each fill has its advantages and disadvantages. While natural down fill is perfect for providing great warmth and wicking away moisture while being ever so light, the downside is that these may exacerbate allergies by attracting dirt and microbes easily.

Duvet with synthetic fills are hypoallergenic and may be washed with warm water that kills bacteria and are therefore easier to keep clean. A third alternative is wool fills, which are comparable with down duvets in terms of warmth and ability to wick away moisture; also lightweight, they are also cheaper than down.
