Best gel polish brand 2016

How Does Gel Polish Work?

There is a difference between a gel manicure and an acrylic manicure. Acrylic nails are made with a powder dipped in solvent, which hardens over the original nail and can be shaped as desired. Additionally, acrylic nails are also typically only involve clear or natural tones. On the other han gel nail polish contains a chemical, butylated hydroxyanisol (BHA), which is then hardened or “baked” on with ultraviolet light after the polish is applied.

Gels also come in an endless number of vibrant shades and colors.

Comparison of Top Gel Nail Polish Starter Kits

Some consumers purchase gel nail polish to take with them to their favorite salon. Other consumers choose nail salons that use their favorite brands of gel nail polish. Additionally, some buyers want to give themselves gel nail manicures in the comfort oftheir homes.

Because doing so requires more supplies than just the polish, below is a comparison of some of the top gel polish systems available to everyday consumers in stores and online. Each $ in the chart below represents approximately $increments.

The Most Simplistic System

Sally Hansen offers two different gel polish systems; the first is a traditional salon-inspired system with a Base Coat Color Top Coat process. The kit includes everything you need to get the show on the road for $6 and extra colors cost $13.

Why Are UV and LED Different?

Gel nail polish is cured by ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths hitting the molecules called photoinitiators in the gel and activating them. UV lamps emit broad UV wavelengths so it takes longer to cure but works on all gel. LED technology uses more narrow UV wavelengths that targets specific photoinitiators in the gel polish so the gel cures faster.
